You have to read it several times to 'get' all it has to offer. My copy is dog-eared, tabbed and highlighted. It is the best over-all, over-view of the self publishing process. I highly recommend this book. Even if you don't self-publish, it helps to understand the process.Leslie KorenkoKelleys Island-The courageous, poignant & often quirky lives of island pioneers 1810-1861
A must buy. If you are serious about self publishing or just want to write your book, Dan Poynter's Self-Publishing Manual is a step-by-step guide. Jam-packed with valuable information, you'll need a red pen, highlighter, page markers, or all three to make sure you capture each gem. You will use this as a reference for each stage of your writing project.
This covers a very complex process thoroughly. There are many sharks out there; this book ditinguishes them from the trouts.
This includes advice on how to pick a subject for your book, how to form your own publishing company, how to go about physically producing your book, and how to tell the world about your new published gem. This was the first self-publishing book I bought, and has proven to be one of the most useful. Dan's expertise in the publishing industry is unmatched due to his decades of experience and countless authored titles. This book is unique in that it covers everything you need to know about self-publishing from A-Z. If you have any question about how self-publishing works, the answer is surely found somewhere in these 400+ pages. The only possible room for improvement for this book would be to incorporate more information on how to leverage the technological advances of the past few years, specifically ebooks and social media. However, I have just seen that a second volume has been published to cover these topics, so once again Dan is on top of things.I highly recommend this book, it's definitely a must-have for any self-publisher and was key in my own self-publishing success.Steve PavilanisA Life Less Anxious: Freedom from panic attacks and social anxiety without drugs or therapy (Volume 1)
Of all the books I've purchased on the subject of getting published, this is one of the very best - maybe THE best. There is also some information on the traditional publishing route. For me, this book is a keeper. I put most books down after the 1st chapter or so, but I read this one cover to cover in one sitting, staying up well into the night because I just couldn't put it down. What sets this book apart from most of the pack is that it doesn't just give you 'Go Get'em' speeches along with vague ideas of what needs to be done. This book enumerates the steps to self publishing and provides detailed information on how to do each one. I will refer back to it often, I'm sure. I recommend it highly to anyone who, like me, is trying to understand how to get a book published.
